Yiddish

Yiddish is a mixture of mainly German and Hebrew that is spoken in Jewish communities throught the world. Since it has been spoken in so many different countries, alongside so many different languages, it has picked up a lot of local names which were used as "translations" of Hebrew names. Many Jews still use the custom of giving children a "secular" name and a Hebrew name. The names are not necessarily related to each other. This list is of Yiddish forms of names spoken in various countries. There may be different forms of different names, depending on where the community was located. This list is by no means comprehensive!

Spoken in: Israel, and Jewish communities throughout Europe, the USA, Canada and the rest of the world
