What You Would Have Named Emma Thompson's Baby

Emma Thompson and her boyfriend Greg Wise had a baby girl in the beginning of December 1999. She went without a name for a couple of weeks. In that time, in a completely useless yet fun gesture, we asked visitors to write in to see what *they* would have named her. It turns out that Emma Thompson and Greg Wise have named the baby--Gaia Romilly Wise: Gaia after an Earth Goddess. Here are the names people submited to me as names Ms. Thompson should have considered:

• Since she is from England, she probably prefers traditional names such as Sarah Elizabeth or Grace or Olivia Rose, etc...

• I don't know her naming style, but I'd name it Ava Blythe.

• Knowing her fondess for the classics, I'm going to suggest some Shakespearean names: Viola, Ophelia, Juliet, Emilia, Miranda, Helena, Hermia, Portia, Phebe, Rosaline, Imogen, Katharina... the list goes on and on. But, she's got that wicked sense of humor, so I bet she comes up with something completely unusual and surprises us all!

• And others went for the Shakespearean theme as well, suggesting:
  Ophelia , Viola, and Juliet.
