Would all your goth friends laugh at you if you said your favorite singer was Brian Warner? Possibly, which may be why he is better known as Marilyn Manson. Ditto for Slash, which is definitely more badass than Saul Hudson. Whether people make their names longer (i.e., Arnold Dorsey became Engelbert Humperdinck), shorter (like Delloreese Patricia Earley became Della Reese), less exotic (actor Danny Thomas was born Amos Muzyad Jahoob), more exotic (like Tara Patrick, better known as Carmen Electra ) or just different (like Sean John Combs, aka Puff Daddy, Sean "Puffy" Combs, P. Diddy and just plain Diddy), actors, writers, musicians, sports figures etc. have been changind the names they use in the limelight for centuries. Whether or not Gordon Sumner's mom actually calls him Sting, or Dave Evans's wife asks The Edge to pick up a loaf of bread on the way home is anyone's guess.
